What You Learn
The Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:
- Knowledge Development (online, home study, or in a classroom ) to understand the basic principles of scuba diving,
- Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills,
- Open Water Dives to review your skills and explore!
If you've participated in a Discover Scuba Diving experience or resort course, the skills you learned may be credited towards a portion of the full Open Water Diver course certification.

You can start your adventure today at home or on the go with e-Learning on your computer, tablet, or phone.
Blue Octopus Scuba offers three choices for completing the Open Water course
- THIS COURSE: 3-day Combined course. Save time and combine Confined Water and Open Water in a 3-day weekend at the lake
- Split course, Confined Water Dives one weekend in the pool and Open Water Dives a second weekend at the lake.
- Referral course, Confined Water Dives with us and ask for a referral to any resort or retailer worldwide. Don't spend your vacation time or dollars sitting in a classroom or at the bottom of a pool! There is no additional charge for this referral
Prerequisites
To enroll in the Open Diver course or Junior Open Water Diver course, you must be:
- 18 years or older. (BOS welcomes children aged 10-17 but they take our more relaxed two-weekend confined water / open water curriculum)
- Complete our Open Water online all-in-one waiver.
- If you must answer “YES” to any questions in the online waiver medical section, a physician must review and sign the Medical Statement which can be downloaded here.
